The GMH Group has been producing steel by melting scrap with electric power for nearly 30 years, achieving around 80 percent lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional primary steelmaking methods. CEO Alexander Becker stated, “Our Georgsmarienhütte plant confidently positions itself as Germany’s greenest steel mill.”
The group also operates electric arc furnaces at its Bous, Gröditz, and Herzberg sites. By using green electricity and biogenic carbon in production, the company further reduces its CO₂ footprint per ton of steel. Becker noted, “Our current capacity for CO₂-reduced steel is 50.000 tons. It’s a small share of our total production, but it’s a beginning—and it will grow.”
These steps underline GMH Group’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability and its focus on delivering solution-oriented production for its partners in the automotive sector.
