According to data from the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), global stainless steel production rose by 5% from the previous quarter in the April–June 2025 period, reaching 16.36 million tonnes. On a yearly basis, production increased by 3.1%.
On a regional level, production in Europe declined by 5.1% year on year and by 4.1% from the previous quarter decreasing to 1.54 million tonnes. In the United States, production reached 559,000 tonnes, increase by 7.8% y-o-y and by 1.1% on a quarterly basis.
In Asia (excluding China and South Korea), production increased by 4.1% y-o-y but decreased by 2.2% on a quarterly basis, totaling 3.49 million tonnes. China maintained its leadership in the sector, with production increasing by 3.9% y-o-y and by 9.6% on a quarterly basis to 10.54 million tonnes.
Among other producing countries – including Ukraine, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, South Korea, and Russia total production amounted to 225,000 tonnes. In these countries, output increased by 2.9% y-o-y and by 1% quarter on quarter.
