Global pig iron production increases

In the January-August 2023 period, global pig iron production reached 958.24 million tons, up by 2.2% compared to the same period in 2022. In August, world pig iron production amounted to 119.82 million tons, reflecting a y-o-y increase of 4.4% and a m-o-m decrease of 2.3%.

In January-August 2023, 880.77 million tons of pig iron was produced by the blast furnace method and 77.47 million tons by the DRI method worldwide.

Leading countries in pig iron production in January-August 2023:

• China: 603.59 million tons (up 3.7% y-o-y)
• India: 88.76 million tons (up 10.2% y-o-y)
• Japan 42.45 million tons (down 3% year-on-year)
