Global crude steel production decreased by 5.8% in June

World crude steel production decreased by 5.8% y/y to 151.4 million tons (Mt) in June 2025.

Global crude steel production decreased by 5.8% in June

The World Steel Association (WorldSteel) announced crude steel production figures for June 2025. Accordingly, world crude steel production of 69 countries amounted to 151.4 million tons (Mt) in June 2025, decreasing by 5.8% compared to the same month of the previous year.

This figure decreased by 2.2% to 934.3 million tons in the January-June period.

On a regional basis, Africa's crude steel production increased by 3% y/y to 1.7 million tons. In Asia and Oceania, production decreased by 6.2% to 112.9 million tons. Production in the European Union (27 countries) decreased by 8.2% to 10.4 million tons. In the rest of Europe, production decreased by 8.4% to 3.3 million tons.

Crude steel production in the Middle East decreased by 4.9% to 4.3 million tons. In North America, production increased by 1.2% to 8.7 million tons. Production in Russia, other CIS countries and Ukraine decreased by 8.8% to 6.7 million tons. In South America, production increased by 1.3% to 3.5 million tons.

Germany's production falls to a record low

On a country basis, China's crude steel production decreased by 9.2% y/y to 83.2 million tons in June. India's production increased by 13.3% to 13.6 million tons. Production in Japan decreased by 4.4% to 6.7 million tons. US production increased by 4.6% to 6.9 million tons. Russia's production is estimated at 5.6 million tons, a decrease of 7.4%.

South Korea's production decreased by 1.8% to 5 million tons, while Türkiye's production decreased by 3.5% to 2.9 million tons. In Germany, production decreased by 15.9% to 2.7 million tons. Brazil's production decreased by 0.5% to 2.8 million tons, while Iran's production decreased by 15.5% to 2.2 million tons.
