Global crude steel output decreases in March

According to statistics released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), the global crude steel output amounted to 161 million tons in March this year, falling by 5.8% compared to the same month a year ago. China was the largest producer with 88.3 million tons, down by 6.4% year on year.

In the first quarter, the global crude steel production had a year-on-year decrease of 6.8%, reaching 456.6 million tons.

Among them, the output in Asia and Oceania was down by 7.8% to 331.3 million tons, that in the EU’s 27 countries decreased by 3.8% to 36.8 million tons, that in North America fell by 0.9% to 28.1 million tons, and that in Russia, Ukraine, and other CIS countries was down by 8.5% to 24 million tons, all compared to the first quarter in 2021.
