Germany’s crude steel production fell by 1.8% year on year to 2.679 million tonnes in July 2026.

According to data from the German Steel Federation (Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl), Germany’s crude steel production fell by 1.8% year on year to 2.679 million tonnes in July 2026. This marked the first year-on-year decline in the country’s crude steel production in 2026.

In the January-July period, total crude steel production increased by 6.8% year on year to 21.308 million tonnes.

By production method, crude steel output from BOF operations fell by 4% year on year to 1.830 million tonnes in July, while EAF production increased by 3.3% to 849,000 tonnes. In January-July, BOF crude steel production rose by 8.5% to 14.589 million tonnes, while EAF production increased by 3.4% to 6.719 million tonnes.

Pig iron production also declined by 4.5% year on year to 1.662 million tonnes in July. In the January-July period, however, pig iron production increased by 7.3% year on year to 13.287 million tonnes.

Production of hot-rolled steel products rose by 1.4% year on year to 2.540 million tonnes in July. In January-July, hot-rolled steel product output increased by 4.2% year on year to 18.648 million tonnes.

Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl said the upward trend in crude steel production came to an end in July, with continued weak demand weighing on output.
