GEMKOM introduced its domestic technology developed for green steel at MENA Steel Forum 2025

Doğan Ertaş, General Manager of GEMKOM MAKİNA, took the floor at the panel titled “Technological Advancements and Innovation in Steel Manufacturing” at MENA Steel Forum 2025, one of the leading steel events in the Middle East and North Africa region, and introduced the company's domestic technology that contributes to green steel transformation.

GEMKOM introduced its domestic technology developed for green steel at MENA Steel Forum 2025

Starting his presentation with the emphasis that "Steel is life itself", Ertaş stated that steel is an indispensable material in every field and added, "The second and third words to be used in the definition of steel may change periodically, but the first word is always the same: life,".

Speaking about the activities of GEMKOM, Ertaş stated that the company has been serving the steel industry for 25 years in four continents in the fields of engineering and production. He gave information about the FESCON system, which the company started the R&D process in 2013 and started to be actively used in Türkiye as of 2020. Stating that this system recovers the energy lost in production processes and increases efficiency, Ertaş shared the mechanical structure, operation cycle and process data of FESCON with the participants in detail.

Ertaş emphasized the company's approach to environmentally friendly technology, noting, “The key to making progress is to develop a system that does not reduce the complexity and efficiency of the production process while providing environmental benefits.”

Ertaş explained that as part of GEMKOM's green steel vision, they plan to enter the market with DRI (direct reduced iron) production at the end of the year or in the first quarter of 2026, and that pilot studies on carbon capture systems have been successfully completed. He informed that if successful, this system will also be offered to the sector.

The innovative solutions offered by GEMKOM once again demonstrated that Türkiye-based companies can also lead the global transformation in the transition to sustainability in steel production.
