Export statistics from the Ministry of Trade: 2023 analysis by provinces of operation

The Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Turkiye announced export statistics by provinces of operation, calculated by taking into account the location of production of firms in Turkiye.

These statistics allow detailed analyses in sub-divisions such as provinces, products and countries, enabling Turkiye's foreign trade performance to be evaluated from a broad perspective.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, Istanbul ranked first in exports in 2023 with an increase of 7.5 per cent and 59 billion 381 million dollars. Kocaeli ranked second with $30 billion 717 million, up 0.3 per cent, and Izmir ranked third with $23 billion 793 million, down 4.9 per cent.

Iron and steel in Izmir

Istanbul's top export sectors were precious or semi-precious stones, knitted apparel and accessories, boilers and machinery. Kocaeli, on the other hand, displayed a significant performance in motor vehicles, mineral fuels and electrical machinery and devices. İzmir, on the other hand, stands out in the mineral fuels, boilers and iron-steel sectors.

Istanbul exported the most to the United Arab Emirates (4 billion 691 million dollars), Germany (4 billion 557 million dollars) and the USA (4 billion 5 million dollars). Among the prominent markets of Kocaeli are the UK (2 billion 557 million dollars), Germany (2 billion 370 million dollars) and Italy (1 billion 854 million dollars). Among the countries to which Izmir exports the most are Germany (2 billion 341 million dollars), the Netherlands (1 billion 512 million dollars) and the USA (1 billion 491 million dollars).

According to the statistics of provinces of operation in Turkiye, the 15 provinces with the highest exports are listed as follows:

  1. Istanbul: 59.381.117.599 USD (Increase: 7,5%)
  2. Kocaeli: $30,716,794,192 (Increase: 0.3%)
  3. Izmir: 23.793.081.855 USD (Decrease: -4,9%)
  4. Bursa: 17,652,194,834 USD (Increase: 3.0%)
  5. Tekirdag: 12.519.874.821 USD (Decrease: -7,3%)
  6. Ankara: $11,073,724,056 (Increase: 10.6%)
  7. Mersin: 9,757,615,614 USD (Increase: 15.9%)
  8. Sakarya: $9,405,415,917 (Increase: 7.8%)
  9. Gaziantep: $9,146,215,638 (Decrease: -1.6%)
  10. Manisa: 7,747,697,653 USD (Increase: 3.5%)
  11. Hatay: $5,170,307,574 (Decrease: -11.7%)
  12. Eskisehir: $4,277,926,677 (Increase: 0.8%)
  13. Adana: $4,135,528,810 (Decrease: -6.7%)
  14. Denizli: 4.025.294.313 USD (Decrease: -9,1%)
  15. Konya: 3.789.177.762 USD (Decrease: -0,7%)
