The meeting was co-chaired by European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra and Türkiye’s Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum. Deputy Ministers of Trade and Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change also attended.
The Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye stated that the meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen EU–Türkiye climate cooperation and assess progress in policy implementation following the adoption of Türkiye’s first Climate Law in July 2025. The Delegation also emphasized that the parties discussed mitigation efforts under the new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to be submitted ahead of COP30.
The meeting reviewed Türkiye’s work on carbon pricing, alignment activities under the upcoming Emissions Trading System, and joint technical studies. The parties agreed to establish a structured and regular exchange of views on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). New areas of cooperation such as just transition and coal were also on the agenda.
The Delegation emphasized that the dialogue serves as an important platform to advance implementation and targets on climate action and to promote stronger cooperation between the parties.
