Eti Alüminyum is preparing to implement an important investment in order to increase domestic production. Eti Alüminyum pressed the button for the production of special alumina used in strategic sectors, especially in the defense industry. Thanks to the new facility it will establish, it will be operational in the third quarter of this year. Within the scope of the investment, with the 'Ground Alumina Unit' to be added to the aluminum production facility in Konya Seydişehir, special alumina, which is completely imported in our country, will start to be produced in Turkey for the first time. With the new investment, it is planned to reach an annual production capacity of 40 thousand tons of special alumina.
Pointing out that after Eti Alüminyum was acquired by Cengiz Holding from the Privatization Administration in 2005, an investment of more than 700 million dollars was made, Mehmet Arkan stated that the Turkish market has a volume of 25 thousand tons in the special alumina developed entirely by Turkish engineers and that this market has a growth potential of 5 percent every year. Stating that the production of special alumina is a revolution for the Turkish defense industry, Arkan continued: "With this important investment, we will not only meet the special alumina needs of our country and decrease its dependence on foreign countries; at the same time, we will increase our competitive power and increase Turkey's export power in aluminum."
