OYAK General Manager and Erdemir Chairman Murat Yalçıntaş visited the Erdemir Romania facility, which operates under OYAK Mining Metallurgy. During his visit to the plant in Târgovişte, Romania, Yalçıntaş met with Erdemir Romania General Manager Doğan Güreş and employees at the facility.
With an annual production capacity of 150,000 tonnes, Erdemir Romania produces high-quality non-grain oriented (NGO) electrical steel used in the cores of electric motors and generators.
As electrification and the energy transition accelerate, the company is focusing on developing E-Car steels used in traction motors for electric vehicles, as well as thinner products with lower magnetic losses. With more than 50 years of experience in electrical steel production, Erdemir Romania continues to develop high value-added steel products for Europe’s electrification transition by leveraging the production capabilities and technical expertise of OYAK Mining Metallurgy.
Hot-rolled coils developed at İsdemir are now being used
One of the steps taken to enhance Erdemir Romania’s production capabilities has been the introduction of hot-rolled coils developed at İsdemir and suitable for electrical steel production at the Romanian facility.
The complementary production capabilities and technical expertise of OYAK Mining Metallurgy companies support improvements in capacity and efficiency. This cooperation also provides a foundation for the development of high value-added products.
With its proximity to European markets, production infrastructure, technical expertise and experienced workforce, Erdemir Romania is one of OYAK Mining Metallurgy’s production and export hubs in Europe.
90% of production is exported
Murat Yalçıntaş said that Erdemir Romania is one of OYAK Mining Metallurgy’s key export hubs in Europe, noting that the production and technical capabilities of the group companies complement each other.
Highlighting the accelerating global energy transition, Yalçıntaş said electrical steel is at the heart of this transformation, ranging from electric vehicles to renewable energy technologies.
“As Erdemir Romania, we have more than 50 years of established production experience in Târgovişte. Moreover, we directly export 90% of our production,” Yalçıntaş said.
Product portfolio in target markets to be expanded
Yalçıntaş stated that Erdemir’s production strength in Türkiye and Erdemir Romania’s expertise in electrical steel complement each other, adding that the use of hot-rolled coils developed at İsdemir contributes to the plant’s capacity and efficiency.
Yalçıntaş continued:
“Our proximity to European markets, strong infrastructure and experienced workforce are our greatest advantages. The use of hot-rolled coils suitable for electrical steel, which we developed at İsdemir, at our Romanian facility is also significantly supporting our capacity and efficiency. We believe Erdemir’s strong production capabilities in Türkiye and Erdemir Romania’s expertise form a seamless combination. At a time when renewable energy technologies are becoming increasingly widespread, we will continue to expand the product portfolio we offer to markets such as Germany, Poland, Hungary, France and the US. The steps we are taking in line with our company’s 2030 vision will further strengthen our position in international markets.”
