According to EMRA’s 2024 annual activity report, licensing procedures in the electricity market decreased by 70.2% compared to 2023, falling to 1,386. Of these licenses, 621 were issued for generation, 595 were pre licenses, and 156 were issued for supply activities.
Licensed production capacity reached a total of 2,552 megawatts. Of this capacity, 980 megawatts came from wind, 850 megawatts from solar, and 523 megawatts from hydroelectric sources. The report also stated that a 68-megawatt production license was canceled.
8,944 Licenses in the Petroleum, Natural Gas, and LPG Markets
Last year, a total of 8,944 licenses were issued in the petroleum, natural gas, and LPG markets. Of these, 6,104 were for the petroleum sector, 2,734 for LPG, and 106 for the natural gas sector.
In the petroleum market, the number of licenses increased by 23.7% compared to the previous year, with the highest number 5,711 issued for dealership activities.
In the natural gas market, however, the number of licenses decreased by 30.3%. Most licenses in this market 40 in total were issued for distribution activities.
In the LPG market, licenses decreased by 2.3% to 2,734. In the LPG sector, autogas dealerships ranked first with 2,695 licenses.
The Number of Charging Stations Exceeded 10,000
In 2024, 117 new charging network operator licenses were issued in the charging services market. During the year, 14,260 new sockets were commissioned, of which 7,336 were AC (slow charging) and 6,924 were DC (fast charging).
The total number of sockets across Türkiye increased by 116.9% compared to the previous year, reaching 26,462, while the number of charging stations rose to 10,516. At the end of 2023, this figure was 5,682.
According to EMRA’s projections, the number of electric vehicles in Türkiye is expected to surpass 269,000 in 2025, 1.3 million in 2030, and 3.3 million in 2035. In parallel with this growth, the number of charging sockets is targeted to exceed 273,000 by 2035.
Number of Active Licenses Exceeded 28,000
At the end of 2024, the total number of active licenses increased to 28,292, marking a 0.1% increase compared to the previous year.
In the electricity market, the number of active licenses increased by 2.6% to 3,333, while in the natural gas market it increased by 4.6% to 385. In the petroleum market, the number of active licenses decreased by 0.1% to 13,331, and in the LPG market it fell by 0.4% to 11,068.
In the charging services market, the number of active charging network operator licenses also increased by 4.2%, reaching 175.
