Domestic support for Tata Steel's £1.25 billion green steel project

Tata Steel has appointed three contractors from South Wales to deliver key parts of its GBP 1.25 billion state-of-the-art green steelmaking investment in Port Talbot.

The contracts with Bridgend-based Darlow Lloyd & Sons, Wernick Buildings and Swansea-based Andrew Scott Ltd will create more than 300 skilled jobs in the region.

Darlow Lloyd & Sons, which is undertaking the initial phases of the project, will carry out excavation and infrastructure works. “This collaboration secures our experienced workforce and allows us to appoint local experts with transferable skills to this unique project,” stated Rhys Lloyd, the company's director.

Andrew Scott Ltd will complete critical infrastructure, including a new scrap yard for the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). “We are committed to supporting local talent and filling positions with our skilled workforce,” stated David Evan Williams, the company's Civil Contracts Director.

Meanwhile, Wernick Buildings will construct an 8,500 square meter contractor village. “90% of the workers we are hiring to build this impressive space will be from the communities surrounding the steel mill,” stated Managing Director Ben Wernick.
