Crude steel production in Germany remained at very low levels. In February, it decreased by 13.5% compared to the previous year.

According to data compiled by SteelRadar from the German Steel Federation (Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl), Germany's crude steel production in February 2025 decreased by 13.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, falling to 2.7 million tons.

This figure represents an increase of 0.80% compared to the previous month, January, when production was 2.68 million tons. The losses observed in the first two months of this year continue at double-digit rates, and steel production has yet to make significant progress in the recovery process.

Germany's crude steel production in February decreased by 13.5% year-on-year, falling to 2.702 million tons. Similar declines were observed in other production segments. Steel production using Basic Oxygen Furnaces (BOF) decreased by 14.4%, reaching 1.84 million tons. This figure fell by 15.2% in the January-February period, totaling 3.69 million tons. Steel production using Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) dropped by 11.5% year-on-year in February, falling to 864,000 tons. In the January-February period, it declined by 8.2%, reaching 1.68 million tons. Pig iron production decreased by 15.9% compared to the previous year, falling to 1.7 million tons. This figure fell by 16.1% in the January-February period, reaching 3.42 million tons. Production of hot-rolled steel products decreased by 16.9%, totaling 2.4 million tons, while in the first two months of the year, it declined by 12.9%, falling to 4.85 million tons.

The German Steel Federation emphasized that the losses observed in the first two months of this year continued at double-digit rates, stating that as a result, crude steel production made an extremely weak start to the new year.
