China’s rebar production showed a slight decline in January–September 2025

In September, production fell by 2.9% year on year to 14.75 million tonnes.

China’s rebar production in the first nine months of 2025 decreased by 0.1% compared with the same period last year, totaling 143.4 million tonnes. In September alone, output dropped by 2.9% year on year to 14.75 million tonnes.

Experts note that this decline was driven by weak demand in the construction sector and limited production capacity in certain regions. The slowdown in urban infrastructure projects and cost pressures are cited as key factors constraining production.

Meanwhile, China’s total steel production increased by 5.1% year on year in September to reach 124.2 million tonnes. During January–September, output rose by 5.4% year on year to 1.1 billion tonnes. This indicates that while overall steel supply continues to grow, the rebar segment remains constrained by demand-side challenges.

Analysts emphasize that this slight decline in rebar production could indirectly affect prices and the supply-demand balance in major steel-consuming countries such as Türkiye and others.
