China’s crude steel output decreased in November 2025, limited recovery seen in daily production

China’s crude steel and pig iron production moved into year-on-year decrease territory in November 2025, while limited recoveries were observed in daily production for some items.

Crude steel production in November decreased by 10.9 percent year on year to 69.87 million tons. Daily crude steel output increased by 0.3 percent month on month to 2.329 million tons.

Pig iron production decreased by 8.7 percent year on year to 62.34 million tons in the same period, while daily output decreased by 1.7 percent month on month to 2.078 million tons.

Steel products production decreased by 2.6 percent year on year to 115.91 million tons in November 2025. By contrast, daily steel products output increased by 1.0 percent month on month to 3.8637 million tons.

January–November overview

In the first 11 months of the year, China’s cumulative crude steel production decreased by 4.0 percent year on year to 892 million tons. Cumulative daily crude steel production stood at 2.6697 million tons.

Pig iron production decreased by 2.3 percent year on year to 774 million tons, while cumulative daily output was calculated at 2.3175 million tons. In contrast, steel products production increased by 4.0 percent year on year to 1.333 billion tons, with cumulative daily production reaching 3.9903 million tons.

Six percent year-on-year decrease in pig iron production

In November 2025, leading steel enterprises produced a total of 61.0789 million tons of crude steel. This figure pointed to an 8.9 percent year-on-year decrease. Daily production amounted to 2.036 million tons, marking a 0.9 percent month-on-month decrease.

During the same period, 56.3501 million tons of pig iron were produced, corresponding to a 6.0 percent year-on-year decrease. Daily production stood at 1.8783 million tons, while the month-on-month decrease was 1.8 percent.

Steel products production decreased by 7.3 percent year on year to 63.779 million tons. Daily production was recorded at 2.126 million tons, with a 0.4 percent month-on-month decrease.

In the January–November period, cumulative crude steel production of leading enterprises totaled 747 million tons, representing a 1.9 percent year-on-year decrease, while cumulative daily production reached 2.2363 million tons.

Over the same period, total pig iron production decreased by 0.6 percent year on year to 677 million tons, with total daily output at 2.0263 million tons. Total steel products production increased by 1.3 percent year on year to 764 million tons, and total daily production was recorded at 2.2888 million tons.
