China, Türkiye and India have reached the limit in many products in the EU's first-quarter 2026 steel quotas

In the European Union's steel quota system covering the period of January 1–March 31, 2026, China, Türkiye and India fully utilized their quotas in certain product categories.

According to SteelRadar’s weekly quota assessment compiled from European Commission data, initial quotas for many products have been fully utilized, leaving no remaining volumes.

The data show that the 126,937 ton quota for Chinese-origin 4B metallic coated sheets has been completely exhausted. Likewise, the 15,559 ton quota for organic coated sheets imported from Türkiye reached a 100% utilization rate. The quota for Chinese-origin merchant bars and light sections, totaling 138,863 tons, was also fully used, as was the 31,416 ton quota for stainless bars and light sections from India.

In Chinese-origin sheet piling products, the 6,929 ton quota was depleted in a short period. The 5,821 ton quota for seamless stainless pipes from India was fully used, while the quota for other seamless pipes of Chinese origin, amounting to 34,005 tons, was also completely consumed.

India’s hot-rolled coil (HRC) quota closed at 100% utilization, with the full 222,829 tons used. For hollow sections of Turkish origin, the 83,109 ton quota was filled, and the 14,782 ton quota for large welded pipes imported from Türkiye was likewise exhausted.

Meanwhile, several product groups recorded utilization rates above 50% but have not yet reached full capacity. In Chinese-origin 3B silicon steel sheets, 72.42% of the 30,904 ton quota was used, leaving 8,522 tons available.

For South Korean-origin 4B metallic coated sheets, 58.04% of the 166,224 ton initial quota was utilized, leaving 69,133 tons unused. In this product category, 5,656 tons remain pending allocation. Indian-origin organic coated sheets recorded a 92.29% utilization rate of the 78,505 ton quota, with 5,995 tons remaining.

Utilization of organic coated sheets imported from South Korea reached 96.46%. Of the 70,950 ton quota, 67,830 tons were used, leaving 2,488 tons available, while 2,061 tons are pending allocation.

For Turkish-origin wire rod, 74.38% of the 117,587 ton initial quota was utilized. This leaves 24,871 tons unused, with 6,340 tons pending allocation. In Turkish-origin HRC, 85.46% of the 469,492-ton quota was used, leaving 57,281 tons available and 2,874 tons pending allocation.

In Turkish-origin merchant bars and light sections, the utilization rate stood at 57.96%. Of the 105,859-ton quota, 60,810 tons were used, leaving 44,105 tons unused and 3,703 tons pending allocation.

For other welded pipe products from Turkey, the utilization rate was recorded at 85.41%. Out of a 38,036 ton quota, 32,196 tons were used, 5,502 tons remained available, and 832 tons were pending allocation.

In the rebar segment, 61.76% of the 94,295 ton quota for Turkish-origin products was utilized. This left 35,738 tons available, with no pending allocations reported.
