According to the US International Trade Administration (ITA) data, US flat steel imports in November 2024 increased by 20% y-o-y to 827,140 tons from 686,427 tons.
Canada was the largest supplier of the US in November. Flat steel imports from Canada, which were 279,904 tons in November 2023, decreased by 3% to 268,617 tons in the same month of 2024.
Vietnam ranked second with a significant increase in imports. From 32,644 tons in November 2023, imports increased by 212% to 100,002 tons in 2024.
South Korea was also among the countries that increased their import volume. Imports increased by 55% to 91,800 tons from 59,445 tons in November 2023, followed by Vietnam. Canada's import volume was about 2.7 times that of Vietnam.
On the other hand, imports from Mexico decreased by 46% from 90,137 tons to 48,178 tons.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the other hand, increased its imports by 157% from 7,449 tons to 18,015 tons.
While Canada continued to be the leader in US flat steel imports, imports from Asian countries increased significantly.
