Brazil extends AD duty on Chinese stainless steel pipes for another 5 years

The Brazilian Chamber of Foreign Trade (Gecex) has decided to extend the anti-dumping duty on stainless steel welded pipes originating from China for 5 years.

Brazil extends AD duty on Chinese stainless steel pipes for another 5 years

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, the duty covers 304 and 316 grade austenitic stainless steel welded pipes with circular cross-section, outer diameter between 6 mm and 2,032 mm and thickness between 0.40 mm and 12.70 mm imported from China.

With the decision, Chinese producers and exporters other than Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals Co., Ltd. will be subject to a definitive anti-dumping duty of USD 1,340.52 per ton. However, Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals Co., Ltd. was exempted from this duty.

The measure is intended to protect Brazil's domestic industry against imports at dumped prices, officials stated. The measure was adopted as a result of the review process conducted under Decree No. 8.058 of July 26, 2013.

In addition, the reasons for the decision were publicly published for the information of the public. The measure aims to ensure fair competition in imports into Brazil and support domestic production.

While the new regulation entered into force on the date of its publication, it was emphasized that these tariff classifications are for reference purposes only and are not binding. Conical pipes were excluded from this application.

Geraldo Alckmin, Brazil's Minister of Industry and Trade, emphasized the importance of protecting industry and ensuring a fair trade environment for the country's economy.
