Blastr Green Steel and INTERFER Edelstahl sign low carbon steel supply agreement

Norway-based steel producer Blastr Green Steel (Blastr) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with INTERFER Edelstahl Group, a leading European steel trading company, to supply 150,000 tons of ultra-low CO2 steel annually.

Blastr Green Steel and INTERFER Edelstahl sign low carbon steel supply agreement

The agreement covers 10% of the planned annual production capacity of the green steel plant Blastr currently developing in Inkoo, Finland.

Blastr Green Steel uses hydrogen instead of coal in steel production, creating a production model with significantly lower CO2 emissions compared to traditional methods. The company's value chain includes a 2.5 million tons capacity ultra-low CO2 steel plant in Inkoo, along with a green DR pellet plant in the UK that responds to the European Commission's environmental sustainability demands.

The agreement with INTERFER is for the long-term supply of low-carbon steel from the Inkoo plant. The first shipments expected to start by the end of 2029. Furthermore, the parties are set to start negotiations for a binding agreement in early 2025. This cooperation is considered an important step in the production and supply of low carbon steel in Europe.
