BHP Billiton reported lower iron ore production in the third quarter, with a 3.2% drop quarter-on-quarter and 2.9% year-on-year to 63.2 million tons. This was due to lower production at Western Australia Iron Ore. BHP expects its iron ore production for the 2023-2024 financial year to be between 254-264.5 million tons.
Metallurgical coal production fell 34% quarter-on-quarter and 15.9% year-on-year to 5.6 million tons due to planned maintenance of the Gunyella concentrator.
