Belgium increased its steel production

In March 2023, Belgian steel mills increased steel production by 9.2% m-o-m to 584,000 tons. On an annual basis, steel production in the country decreased by 10.7% in March.

In January-March 2023, steel production in Belgium amounted to 1.71 million tons, 4.7% less than in the same period in 2022.

Belgian steelmakers reduced steel production in 2022 by 0.4% compared to 2021 to 6.94 million tons. In December 2022, 667,000 tons of steel were produced, an increase of 13.8% y-o-y and 28.3% on a m-o-m basis.

Overall, steel production in the European Union in March 2023 decreased by 5.6% compared to March last year to 11.9 million tons. In January-March 2023, 33.1 million tons of steel were produced in the EU, 10.1% less than in the same period last year.
