Crude steel production increased worldwide in 2023, reaching 1,888.2 million metric tons.
Austria was not included in the increase categories, according to the global crude steel data published by Worldsteel (World Steel Association). The data revealed that 7.9 million metric tons of crude steel was produced in 2021 and continued to consistently decrease for 3 years. In 2022, Austria produced 7.5 million tons of crude steel and ended the year ranked 23rd in crude steel production worldwide.
By 2023, Austria overtook other European countries such as Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovakia, Sweden and the Czech Republic in the global crude steel landscape. However, crude steel production continued to experience a decline. Producers in Austria explained to SteelRadar that they had not been active in their operations due to the risk of a further downturn in demand.
Austria ranked 22nd in 2023, producing 7.1 crude steel in 2023, down 5% compared to 2022.
