Argentina's steel production increased in January

Argentina's crude steel production in January increased by 17% to 299,700 tons, but decreased by 26.5% y/y.

Argentina's steel production increased in January

Steel production in Argentina increased in January 2025 compared to the previous month, according to the latest data released by Acero Argentino, the association representing steel elements. Crude steel production totaled 299,700 tons, up 17% compared to December 2024, but decreased by 26.5% compared to January 2024. Production of primary iron reached 220,900 tons, up 12.4% m/m but down 22.5% y/y.

Hot-rolled steel production was recorded at 286,600 tons, an increase of 25.9% compared to December 2024, but a decrease of 5.8% compared to January 2024. Cold-rolled steel production was calculated at 113,300 tons, an increase of 26.1% m/m and 54.8% y/y.

The report included trade developments in the sector. The US continues to impose a 25% tariff on global steel imports as part of its Section 232 tariffs. Argentina has an annual quota of 180,000 tons of steel exports to the US under economic trade agreements.
