AM/NS India receives approval for iron ore slurry pipeline to Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada, November 8, 2025 – India’s Ministry of Steel has approved ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India’s (AM/NS India) plan to construct a slurry pipeline that will transport iron ore from mines in Chhattisgarh, through Odisha, to the upcoming integrated steel plant in Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh.

Officials stated that the pipeline will carry ore in a liquid form, significantly reducing dependence on road and rail transport, lowering logistics costs, and decreasing carbon intensity. The approval has been granted under the Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines (Acquisition of Right of User in Land) Act, 1962.

AM/NS India’s integrated steel plant in Anakapalle will have a total capacity of 17 million tons per year, with the first phase expected to produce 8.2 MTPA. The project’s environmental clearance was also granted last week by the relevant committee.

These developments are expected to accelerate the plant’s implementation process and enhance Andhra Pradesh’s attractiveness for global industrial investment. Officials emphasized that the project will feature modern technologies enabling energy efficiency, water recycling, and a low carbon footprint, aligning with India’s sustainable industrial goals.
