Instability and production problems have caused Alcoa Corp., which announced a 30% cut in production due to gas shortages at the Kwinana alumina refinery in early 2023, to decrease aluminum production at its Australian subsidiary Portland smelting plant. The company will decrease the total capacity at the factory, which is 358 thousand tons, by 75%.
While the decision was made to implement production cuts immediately, it is not yet clear when the facility in Portland will resume production at full capacity.
