Acciaierie d'Italia targets increased production at Taranto

Acciaierie d'Italia aims to gradually increase its production capacity at Taranto, with the company aiming to produce 3.5 million tons of steel in 2025.

Acciaierie d'Italia targets increased production at Taranto

In 2024, only 2 million tons of steel were produced at the Taranto plant, with the blast furnaces 1 and 4 currently in operation, with daily production reaching 8,000 tons, well below the plant's capacity.

Facing financial difficulties and uncertainty over its workforce, the company has applied to the Italian Ministry of Labor for a 12-month extension of temporary layoffs affecting 3,420 employees.

Critical decisions on the future of the company are approaching, while the process of considering offers for a binding buyout of ADI continues. By February 14, three different investor groups had made offers to buy all of the company's assets.

Taranto, the company's main production center, is experiencing serious difficulties, with only 280,000 tons of production reported in the last two months. Raw material stocks decreased by up to four days, putting the plant at risk of shutdown. The company announced that it plans to increase its production once blast furnace No. 2 is back in operation.
