Continuing its investments with the vision of becoming a global brand in port operations, the company is preparing to commission AI-powered smart cranes under its Port Capacity Expansion Investment Program. As part of the program launched in 2022, two next-generation cargo cranes ordered have been delivered to İsdemir Port, and the commissioning process has begun. The cranes, which are currently under installation, are planned to be put into service as of April. While these AI-supported systems are used in only a limited number of countries worldwide, they will be implemented in Turkey for the first time.
Commenting on the development, Emre Atay, General Manager of OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc., stated that the Grab Ship Unloader cranes undergoing modernization have been equipped with AI integration. He noted that this transformation will enhance operational efficiency and minimize the risk of failures through predictive maintenance systems. Atay also emphasized that AI-supported monitoring mechanisms will elevate occupational health and safety standards to a higher level.
With the commissioning of the AI-integrated smart cranes, the Artificial Intelligence-Based Predictive Maintenance Project will also be put into operation. Through the new system, real-time data collected from the cranes will be analyzed using machine learning algorithms, enabling the detection of potential failures before they occur. This will ensure operational continuity while reducing downtime and costs.
The project is expected to redefine efficiency and safety standards in the port industry and strengthen the port’s technological infrastructure, thereby enhancing its competitiveness. In addition, the system is anticipated to directly contribute to operational efficiency without creating additional costs.
