The lawsuit, amounting to USD 2.77 million, was filed against Liberty Steel & Wire due to unpaid billets delivered to its Georgetown facility in South Carolina between September 2023 and April 2024. The case was brought before the federal court in Peoria, Illinois, on Monday, August 25.
Meanwhile, despite its financial burden, Liberty Steel continues with its growth plans. The company has applied for approval from the Peoria County Board for a USD 2.65 million loan and has pledged to create 700 full-time jobs in the area with the relocation of its headquarters from Dallas to Peoria. Liberty has also applied for a USD 25 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to support its projects.
