US crude steel production increased by 5.3% y-o-y in the week ending December 13

According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute, US crude steel production for the week was 1,753,000 net tons. This level represents a 5.3% increase compared to the 1,665,000 net tons recorded during the same week last year. The capacity utilization rate was measured at 76.5% during this period. The capacity utilization rate was 75.0% during the same week last year.

Production also increased compared to the week ending December 6, 2025. Crude steel production, which was 1,734,000 net tons in the previous week, rose by 1.1% in the last week, while the capacity utilization rate increased from 75.7% to 76.5%.

In the adjusted period from the beginning of the year to December 13, 2025, the total crude steel production in the US was 85,881,000 net tons. The capacity utilization rate for this period was calculated as 76.8%. This production volume represents a 3.4% increase compared to the 83,068,000 net tons produced in the same period last year. The capacity utilization rate for the same period last year was 75.4%.

When evaluated on a regional basis, crude steel production in the US during the week of December 13 was 121,000 net tons in the Northeast, 480,000 net tons in the Great Lakes region, 264,000 net tons in the Midwest, 815,000 net tons in the South, and 73,000 net tons in the West.
