Türkiye’s imported scrap market saw prices remain in the range of $369-370/mt last week. It was reported that Northern European-origin HMS 80/20 scrap was sold at $370/mt, with bonus and shredded scrap also included in the transaction.
In another transaction involving Baltic-origin material, HMS 80/20 scrap was heard to have traded at $369/mt, while bonus scrap was traded at $389/mt.
Demand in Türkiye’s imported scrap market is expected to remain moderate, with prices largely moving sideways. Disruptions to scrap shipments due to low river levels in Europe, restrictions on rail wagons, and high logistics costs stand out as factors supporting supply.
While EU quotas are also limiting room for movement in the market, a recovery in finished steel demand is considered necessary for prices to see a strong upward move.
The latest transactions indicate that Türkiye’s deep-sea scrap prices are maintaining their current levels amid continued tightness on the supply side.
