Kazakhstan has imposed a six-month ban on semi-finished exports

The Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan has taken a significant export restriction decision to support the domestic steel industry.

Kazakhstan has imposed a six-month ban on semi-finished exports

With the decree signed by the Minister of Industry and Construction on July 17, 2025, the export of certain iron and steel products outside the country has been temporarily banned. The decision came into effect on July 26, 2025, and the ban will remain in place for six months.

According to the decree, the export of the following products from Kazakhstani territory via any mode of transport will be temporarily prohibited:

  • 7206: Cast iron or other primary forms of iron and non-alloy steel (excluding products under position 7203),

  • 7207: Semi-finished products made of iron or non-alloy steel,

The Ministry stated that the primary purpose of this ban is to encourage the metallurgy industry in Kazakhstan to produce medium and high-value-added products.

The Ministry stated that this step aims to encourage local metallurgical enterprises to produce higher value-added final products, increase medium and advanced processing capacities in the steel sector, and add value to the industry.

A similar export ban had been implemented previously.
