Three independent directors appointed to US Steel board

United States Steel Corporation (US Steel), together with Nippon Steel Corporation and its subsidiary Nippon Steel North America, announced the appointment of three new independent US directors to the US Steel board of directors.

Takahiro Mori, Representative Director, Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of Nippon Steel and Chairman of the Board of Directors of US Steel, stated, "We are pleased to bring together a group of globally renowned people with a shared interest in solidifying US Steel's position as the leading steel producer in the United States. We look forward to building a stronger future for U.S. steel and its workforce."

“Today's announcement marks an important milestone in our goal to create a bigger and stronger US Steel in the United States,” stated Dave Burritt, President and CEO of US Steel and a member of the Board of Directors. The new Board members share our commitment to protecting the American steel industry and national security."

The three new Independent U.S. Directors joining the board are

  • John M. Donovan: Former CEO of AT&T Communications, Donovan has a deep knowledge of technology and innovation. He serves on the boards of Lockheed Martin and Palo Alto Networks and was a former member of the US President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.

  • Robert J. Stevens: Former Chairman and CEO of Lockheed Martin, Mr. Stevens has experience in strategic planning and global business management. He previously held senior executive positions at companies such as Monsanto Corporation and T. Rowe Price Group.

  • Retired Admiral Timothy J. Keating: Retired from the US Navy, Keating is an expert in national security and crisis management. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Keating Global LLC and has served in a number of key military roles, including the US Pacific Command.

With these three new names, the number of members of the US Steel Board of Directors increased to seven. Four of these members are US citizens and three are independent.
