Robin Pedroza spoke at the 2nd European Green Steel Summit

In his speech at the 2nd European Green Steel Summit, Robin Pedroza, Head of Sustainable Transformation at Germany-based Thyssenkrupp Materials Services, stated that as a company operating in Europe, Thyssenkrupp plans to handle customer communications and requests in an organized manner. He emphasized that as a company, they aim to ensure a sustainable approach with suppliers and customers. Pedroza suggested that when problems related to sustainability are faced globally, solutions may come from regions such as Asia and North America.

Noting that there have been significant developments over the last four years in crystallization for green products, Pedroza explained that these approaches can benefit product sales and that the biggest challenge is to bring these products to market in a sustainable way and for customers to supply them. Pedroza pointed out that 95% of the emissions are from the upstreams emissions. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance with customers.

Pedroza emphasized that brand suppliers are still a long way from sustainability and that more serious steps need to be taken in finding motivation and providing concrete motives for customers. He also noted that the societal trend is towards the construction sector for these products.

Stating that they see sustainability almost as a duty for their generation, Pedroza underlined the importance of being transparent for the "green approach" and providing services accordingly, and detailed it under three headings. Stating that they are aware of the factors that affect prices and how they affect demand, Pedroza emphasized the necessity to provide different approaches in a global context: "In our industry, there are important factors that affect prices and these factors directly affect demand. That's why we need to provide different approaches; for example, 5 to 10 customers, which we can characterize as 40%, tell us which product, in which diameters and for what purpose they will use it, and we provide an approach and work accordingly.

While talking about carbon-free products, Pedroza underlined that these materials should be under three headings in order to be applicable and detailed the products under the headings of "Classic, Benefit and Advance", which is the way Thyssenkrupp materials in Europe classifies the materials for their customers.

He finally called attention to the energy costs in the sector, and that concrete actions should be taken in the applications for green steel and that they should be made sustainable.
