Iran’s iron and steel products exports accelerated while producers’ share weakened

According to data from the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA), exports of iron and steel products recorded strong growth in the first eight months of 2025. While total export volumes increased, a notable decline was observed in the share captured by manufacturing facilities. The data indicate that growth has been driven mainly by raw materials and intermediate products.

Iran’s iron and steel products exports accelerated while producers’ share weakened

The latest statistics published by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) point to a marked expansion in Iran’s iron and steel products exports during the March–November period of 2025. Over this timeframe, export volumes of iron and steel products increased by 31% compared with the same period of the previous year, while total exports of iron and steel products overall rose by 41%.

Despite this growth, the data show that the benefits of rising exports have been reflected only to a limited extent in the manufacturing segment. According to ISPA’s assessments, the share of production facilities in total steel exports has declined to around 40%. This indicates that, while export volumes are expanding, a significant portion of value added is being concentrated outside the manufacturing segment.

Export revenues have also continued to rise. The total export value of iron and steel products increased by 27% in the first eight months of the year, exceeding USD 5.3 million. Strong performance in the raw materials segment stood out in particular, with iron ore concentrate exports rising by 77% year-on-year.

Final products, however, present a more balanced picture. Although the pace of decline in long product exports has slowed compared with previous months, rebar exports still recorded a 12% year-on-year decrease. In contrast, the flat products segment saw a notable recovery, with export values of various steel sheet products nearly tripling to approach USD 500 million.
