The modernization is expected to strengthen the plant’s automation infrastructure and support more reliable, future-ready operations. As part of the project, Primetals Technologies will also replace one of the PLTCM’s main drives. Completion of the upgrade is scheduled for August 2026.
The modernization is expected to deliver significant improvements in product quality at the Shougang Shunyi plant. The new automation technology will extend the lifecycle of control systems, simplify maintenance processes, and reduce operating costs. Following commissioning, the upgraded Level 2 platform will provide advanced process models and enhanced data management capabilities, enabling greater control accuracy, more stable production processes, and more consistent product quality.
These improvements are expected to support the production of high-quality cold-rolled steel for the automotive and home appliance sectors, further strengthening Shougang Shunyi’s position in the premium cold-rolled steel segment.
Ensuring a fast and seamless transition is also a key objective of the project. Primetals Technologies’ Chart Converter software solution enables a rapid return to full production while providing a cost-effective migration process. The tool automatically converts legacy software to the new TIA S7-1500 platform with full functional equivalence, minimizing downtime during implementation.
