According to data compiled by SteelRadar from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), Türkiye’s iron ore imports in May rose by 81.6% compared with the same month of the previous year, increasing from 618,742 tonnes to 1,123,331 tonnes. However, compared with the previous month (April), imports decreased by 22.5%.
During the January–May period, Turkey’s total iron ore imports reached 5,251,546 tonnes, representing a 41.9% year-on-year increase compared with 3,701,416 tonnes recorded in the same period of the previous year.
Brazil Maintains Its Position as the Leading Supplier
In May, Brazil remained Türkiye’s largest iron ore supplier, with imports totaling 775,773 tonnes. Brazil was followed by the Russian Federation, with 180,833 tonnes, and South Africa, with 166,218 tonnes.
During the same month, Türkiye’ also imported 442 tonnes of iron ore from Iraq and 64 tonnes from Romania.
