The company aims to achieve a green transformation in steel production by focusing on replacing traditional blast furnaces with direct reduction (DR) plants.
As part of this initiative, thyssenkrupp is constructing two electric smelting facilities, each with an annual capacity of 2.5 million tons. These facilities, each with a power output of 100 MW, will convert directly reduced iron into hot metal.
This four-year collaboration will focus on critical issues such as improving electrode usage, optimizing furnace operating modes, and fine-tuning process parameters. Additionally, developing high-temperature resistant refractory materials and creating effective maintenance programs are among the important components of the research.
