Aegean Region closed 2025 with exports worth 43.7 billion dollars

While Türkiye’s exports increased by 4.5% in 2025, rising from USD 261.7 billion to USD 273.4 billion, the Aegean Region’s export growth rate remained limited to 0.6%. Although the Aegean Region generated USD 43.7 billion in export revenues for Türkiye in 2025, it failed to receive its proportional share of the country’s overall export growth.

Aegean Region closed 2025 with exports worth 43.7 billion dollars

The Ministry of Trade has published export statistics for 2025 based on provinces of activity. According to these figures, exports from İzmir, Manisa, Denizli, Balıkesir, Aydın, Muğla, Kütahya, Afyonkarahisar, and Uşak, which amounted to USD 43.4 billion in 2024, were recorded at USD 43.7 billion in 2025.

While the Aegean Region’s exports totaled USD 3.872 billion in December 2024, they declined by 2.7% to USD 3.768 billion in December 2025.

Six provinces exceeded the USD 1 billion

In the Aegean Region, İzmir, Manisa, Denizli, Balıkesir, Aydın, and Muğla succeeded in surpassing the USD 1 billion export threshold. While exports from İzmir and Manisa declined, the other seven provinces managed to maintain positive export growth.

Izmir Ranked Third in Türkiye

According to a written statement from the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, İzmir became the third largest exporting city in Türkiye in 2025 with exports totaling USD 23.614 billion. However, it fell slightly short of its 2024 performance of USD 23.833 billion, remaining 1% behind.

The chemical sector made the largest contribution to İzmir’s exports with USD 2.126 billion, followed by the steel-iron and non-ferrous metals sector with USD 1.542 billion, and the apparel sector with USD 1.271 billion.

Afyonkarahisar Leads Export Growth

Afyonkarahisar, known as the capital of marble, increased its exports from USD 710 million in 2024 to USD 834 million in 2025, marking a 17.4% growth and making it the fastest growing province in the Aegean Region. Afyonkarahisar is expected to continue this success in 2026 and aim to surpass USD 1 billion in exports.

Manisa Continued to Follow Izmir

In the Aegean Region, Manisa remained the second largest exporting province after Izmir in 2025, as in previous years. While Manisa generated USD 7.675 billion in foreign exchange for Türkiye in 2024, its exports decreased by 3.5% in 2025, bringing in USD 7.4 billion, maintaining its position just behind Izmir. In December, Manisa’s exports decreased by 9%, from USD 689 million to USD 629 million. The decline in Manisa’s exports was driven by the electrical and electronics sector. Having achieved USD 2.218 billion in exports in 2024, the sector remained at USD 1.709 billion in 2025, causing a USD 510 million decrease in Manisa’s total exports.

Denizli’s Exports Increased

While the top two exporting cities in the Aegean Region saw declines in 2025, Denizli, ranked third, recorded a 6.4% increase in exports, increased from USD 4.2 billion to USD 4.5 billion in Denizli, the electrical and electronics sector boosted its exports by 16%, increased from USD 875 million to USD 1.019 billion, surpassing the USD 1 billion mark for the first time. With the ready made clothing and apparel sector exporting USD 1.094 billion, the gap between the two sectors narrowed from USD 235 million to USD 75 million.

Balıkesir Surpassed USD 2.5 Billion

Balıkesir, which recorded USD 2.457 billion in exports in 2024, increased its exports by 5% in 2025 to USD 2.579 billion, surpassing the USD 2.5 billion mark. The province’s next target will be to reach USD 3 billion in exports.

Aydın Closed to USD 2 Billion in Exports

Aydın raised its exports by 4% in 2025, from USD 1.848 billion to USD 1.925 billion. The province will aim to surpass the USD 2 billion mark in 2026.

Muğla Becomes the Second Highest Export Gainer in the Aegean Region

Muğla, Türkiye’s leading province in the seafood sector, increased its exports by 10% in 2025, from USD 1.280 billion to USD 1.403 billion. The seafood sector accounted for USD 992 million of Muğla’s exports.

Kütahya Postponed Its USD 1 Billion Export Goal to 2026

Entering 2025 with the target of exceeding USD 1 billion in exports, Kütahya recorded USD 956 million, postponing its USD 1 billion goal to 2026.

Uşak Sees Strong Export Momentum

Uşak, which gained good momentum in exports in recent months, increased its exports by 6.6% in 2025, from USD 442 million to USD 471 million. In December alone, the province achieved a 28% export growth, increased exports from USD 35.6 million to USD 45.7 million.
