According to the steel import and export statistics data of 2022, it is shown that while Iran's long product import rate was 78,000 tons in 2021, it increased by 105% in 2022 and increased to 178,000 tons. However, the country, which could not experience the same situation in terms of exports, decreased its export rates by 4-18%.
Among the import figures, 16.000 tons of profile, which decreased by 6% this year compared to 2021, 121.000 tons of rebar with a decrease of 287, and up to 41.000 tons of angle iron, IPE, UPE and other profiles with a decrease of 8%.
On the other hand, imports of steel products increased by 29% from 778,000 tons to 1,700,000 tons in 2021.In 2021, Iran imported 691,000 tons of flat steel products. This figure increased by 20% compared to the previous year and reached 829.000 tons. Of these figures, 330,000 tons of Hrc, 245,000 tons of Crc and 201,000 tons of coated sheet metal were recorded.
Last year, semi-finished billet and bloom imports increased by 200% from 2000 tons to 6000 tons.
When we examine the export data of Iran, a total of 14,640,000 tons of steel products (billet, steel product, profiles and sponge iron) were exported in 2022. Compared to 2021, this figure has decreased by 4-18%. Accordingly, 2 million 731 thousand tons of long steel products were exported in 2022. Among the products exported were 136,000 tons of profiles, 2.421,000 tons of rebar and 174,000 tons of angles, IPE, UPE and other profiles.
Last year, 468,000 tons of flat steel products were exported. These products were 357,000 tons of Hrc, 21,000 tons of Crc and 83,000 tons of coated sheet. It was observed that this figure decreased by 17% compared to the export figure of 565 thousand tons in 2021.
Slab exports, which were 2 million 581 thousand tons, decreased by 21% to 2 million 48 thousand tons. Billet and bloom exports were the only steel products to increase. Billet and blooms, which were exported 5 million 97 thousand tons in 2021, increased the export rate to 4% in 2022 and reached 5 million 324 thousand tons. In addition, while the export of steel products was 3 million 406 thousand tons in 2021, it decreased by 6% in 2022 and reached 3 million 199 tons.
The export figure of Sponge Iron, which was 1 million 55 thousand tons in 2020 decreased to 864 thousand tons in 2021.
