The first phase will feature an energy-efficient grinding circuit to process compact itabirite iron ore. The system will start with a Nordberg® C160™ jaw crusher and a Nordberg® MP800 cone crusher, followed by an HRC™e high-pressure grinding roll (HPGR) and a 3.9 MW Select™ ball mill. Regrinding will be carried out with two Vertimill® VTM4500 stirred mills.
Minerita’s Projects and Maintenance General Manager Diego Reis and Process General Manager Lúcio Cerceau emphasized that the long-standing cooperation with Metso was a key factor in their decision. “This investment aligns with our sustainability and modernization goals. We are also making our processes more environmentally friendly by using Metso Larox® pressure filters for our existing wastewater treatment system,” they stated.
Metso’s Senior Vice President of Grinding, Christoph Hoetzel, emphasized, “The selected Vertimill® stirred mills and high-pressure grinding roll technology offer a more energy-efficient and sustainable grinding process. They also help reduce operational costs and improve process performance.”
This order from Minerita expands Metso’s global HPGR installation base while supporting the growing demand for sustainable grinding solutions. The company continues to deliver customized systems that prioritize energy efficiency, reliability, and ease of operation.
