Iran's crude steel production down 41.2% in September

According to the World Steel Association's (worldsteel) September crude steel production data, Iran's crude steel production increased by 41.2% year-on-year to 1.5 million tons in September 2024.

This figure was up 7.1% compared to the previous month of August. Iran's total steel output in the nine months to 2024 was 21.3 million tons, down 3.1% from the same period last year. Iran ranked 10th in the world with its crude steel output.

The total crude steel production of the Middle Eastern countries of Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen fell by 23% to 3.5 million tons in the same period.

In the January-September period, Iran's total steel production decreased by 1.5% to 38.4 million tons. Possible natural gas shortages in the winter months and political developments in the country are expected to have an impact on production figures and this volatile trend is expected to continue.
