The usage of scrap in India's primary steel production will rise from 15% to 25% over the next five years, reaching 50% by 2047, according to the country's steel minister.
The minister also added that almost every country is protecting its steel scrap and trying to avoid exports. He emphasized that it is important for India to establish an import market for free and fair recyclable materials.
While 22.5% of India's steel production is obtained from scrap, 25 million tons of these are imported within India and 5 million tons are imported.
