Under the project, the system originally supplied by a local manufacturer will be completely upgraded to enhance product quality, productivity, and operational flexibility.
Once completed, the plant’s annual billet production capacity will exceed 1 million tons. The revamped caster will produce billets in 150, 160, and 180 mm square sections, focusing primarily on high-carbon grades, bearing and spring steels, and a full range of automotive-grade steels.
Pierpaolo Rivetti, Vice President of SMS Concast, commented on the project: “At SMS, we combine our extensive experience and proven technologies to efficiently upgrade existing continuous casting plants. This allows us to achieve significant improvements in product quality, productivity, and flexibility with minimal downtime during modernization.”
Li Yutian, Chairman of Henan Jiyuan Iron & Steel, added: “This modernization further strengthens our long-standing partnership with SMS and represents an important step forward in enhancing Jiyuan’s billet production capabilities.”
Special attention has been given to project planning and delivery schedules to ensure smooth commissioning. The modernization work is expected to be completed by June 2026.
