The CC No.4 plate caster, with an annual capacity of 2.37 million tons, will be installed at the company’s plant in Maanshan city, Anhui province.
Under the project scope, Primetals Technologies will be responsible for equipment supply, engineering services, Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems, and supervision of the commissioning process. Start up of the new line is planned for the second half of 2026.
The new continuous casting machine will be equipped with advanced automation and digitalization solutions, enabling the production of a wide range of steel grades. The project is part of a long standing cooperation between Maanshan Iron and Steel and Primetals Technologies, which also includes regular mechanical upgrades and state of the art automation systems.
Casting safety and efficiency to increase
High internal quality plate production is considered critical, particularly for demanding steel grades, and the advanced technologies of the new caster are expected to support Maanshan Iron and Steel’s objectives in this area. The system will feature a high performance cassette type Smart Mold combined with the DynaWidth system, allowing online mold width adjustment.
The machine will also incorporate advanced secondary cooling and soft reduction systems, including DynaPhase, Dynacs 3D, and the DynaGap Soft Reduction 3D package, which significantly enhance product quality.
The two strand caster has been designed with a bow type configuration, featuring a 10 meter radius and a metallurgical length of around 40 meters. The Mold Expert system will help prevent breakouts, while the LevCon system will ensure automatic mold level control.
Strong position within Baowu
