Long steel products manufacturer Gerdau will halt its melting operations at the Whitby plant in Ontario, which has an annual capacity of 1.05 million short tons, starting at the end of April. During this period, the company plans to improve the production capacity and quality of the electric arc furnace.
The company stated that it will meet the production shortfall during the downtime at the Whitby plant by producing at other Gerdau facilities.
Before continuing operations in the melting shop, the steel mill will undergo maintenance for two weeks.
