The Brazilian mining company CSN Mineracao (CM) has received a $1.4 billion loan from several Japanese banks, with the main creditor being the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JBIC). The loan includes partners such as BNP Paribas, JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. The project, named P15, will be operational in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The 12-year loan will be used to establish a pellet plant with a capacity of 15 million tons per year. The P15 project will be located near CM's Casa de Pedra iron ore mine in the state of Minas Gerais.
CM, a subsidiary of Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN), announced that it had increased its iron ore production budget for 2023-2027 to $2.6 billion by the end of 2022, with a target of increasing iron ore supply to 68 million tons by 2027.
